I have pain in my lower back that hurts more when I try and stand. What is it?

Pain in the centre of your lower back, or on either side of your lower back that doesn’t radiate to the leg, and that hurts more when you go from sitting to standing is usually a sprain of the joint in the lower back.

This type of pain is easily improved and corrected with chiropractic care, and is improved by movement, so if you are suffering from this kind of pain, avoid being still for long periods as your back will get more painful.  Using ice or an anti-inflammatory cream to massage into the site of pain can also help as this relieves swelling in the area.

(NB - pain that is worse while you sit may be a disc so definitely get this checked as soon as possible.)
